Colin was born in Perth (Scotland) in 1937 and now at 81 he is still writing and preaching. His early years were mainly in Scotland but it was in the winter of 1948 that his mother finally stayed in Richmond (Surrey). Here, his schooling at Tiffin School, enabled him to settle down. National Service in the RAF then 9 years in the Bank of England followed.

Colin married Janet in 1960.and they are still together. Their family of four children now includes 6 grandchildren as well, though to call them children now is a misnoma. In 1964 a near fatal attack of TB put him in hospital for seven months and on his recovery a review of his life led him to train for the Probation Service. In 1979 the family moved to Reading on his promotion. In 1984 he began to specialise in family work as part of which he worked closely with Social Services, the police and Education Welfare, His study into this partnership led to a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Reading.

The success of the partnership led to him specializing further into Family Court Welfare. In this work he was able to support the setting up of six voluntary contact centres and a Family Court Mediation Service. An early retirement in 1994 led him to work as a mediator for the next 12 years.

As a member and elder of the United Reformed Church in Reading he has served at local and national level. His preaching began when he was in the RAF, so he has now been preaching for over sixty years. Much if his devotional writing has been inspired by his annual holiday at Swanwick with Holiday Forum, a church-based holiday. As a writer he is a member of the Thames Valley Writers and the Association of Christian Writers, as well as the Hymn Society.

Although he has written for many years it is only since he was seventy that he has put his work into the books that he has produced. With a limited print run they have all sold out but all his hymns are registered with CCL and Hymn Quest. A regular contributor to Worship Live, which has now sadly closed, he is now managing an off-shoot of this by an annual workshop for ‘Words for Worship; with two other books in process, this is what he calls slowing down!
